Are my skin issues related to my habits?

healthy skin, skin and lifestyle, good habits for skincare

First of all. What is the skin? As you might probably have heard before, the skin is the largest organ in our body. Such as any other organ, it has specific functions to keep us alive. Our skin protects us from external factors, regulates our temperature, and allows us to feel. When we do skincare and take care of our daily habits, we are taking care of the health and function of this relevant organ.

Skin is not only what we see in the mirror, but it is also composed of many layers connected to our body through blood vessels and nerves. It receives stimulus from whatever we put into our body, such as food, water, sleep, alcohol, and stress. Consequently, our daily habits significantly impact how our skin looks. Evaluate your skin

As we have mentioned in previous articles, there are some aspects of our skin that we can’t change, like our genes, but we can improve our skin with a good skincare routine and a healthy lifestyle.

These are some habits that you must consider if you are working hard to improve your skin.

Exercise regularly as part of your habits

  • Exercise increases your blood flow, hence your body capacity to carry oxygen and nutrients to all your cells, including your skin. Healthy circulation also helps to eliminate toxins that will keep your skin clean and radiant.
  • Clean your sweat as soon as your finish to keep your skin clean from impurities. It will be critical if your skin is acne-prone.

Eat healthily

  • Science has related some skin problems to our diet, specifically sugar, dairy products, and trans fats.
  • On the other hand, certain types of food are associated with overall health, and some of them have significant effects on the skin. The best food categories for healthy skin are omega-3 fatty acids, veggies, and nuts. Keep track of these food categories in your balanced diet for you to notice those changes.

Drink enough water for a healthy skin

  • As you may know, 60% of our body weight is water, which is necessary to keep your overall health. It has been reported that an intake of 8 glasses of water a day makes your skin glow.
  • Pay extra attention if you have dry skin or if you are constantly exposed to dry environments. Your moisturizer can’t do miracles if there is no water that your skin can retain.

Limit alcohol and smoking

  • Drinking and smoking have been related to different health issues and also to premature aging. Some of the most common reported symptoms are dry skin, increased severity of wrinkles, rosacea, psoriasis, bloating, puffiness, and premature wrinkles. Think about your habits and how do they relate to your skincare goals.

Sleep well and your skin will thank you

  • Have you heard of Beauty Sleep? When you sleep, your skin´s blood flow reaches its maximum activity, transporting nutrients, repairing, and recovering.
  • It is recommended to sleep more than 6 hours a day to enhance collagen production, which leads to fewer aging signs, puffy eyes, or dullness.

Protect from the sun

  • Sun’s ultraviolet rays damage skin cells and reduce their elasticity, which leads to several skin concerns such as premature aging, spots, uneven tone, scars, and sunburn. Constant exposure to UV rays has been related to skin cancer.
  • It is highly recommended to avoid sun overexposure and protect ourselves using sunscreen every 4 hours.

Avoid Stress: good habits

  • Your skin response to stress makes it more sensitive and harder to heal. When you are stressed, your body generates cortisol, which in some cases leads to oil production, hence, aggravate acne, infections, and other skin issues.
  • The way we manage stress is different for everybody, but try to incorporate exercise, meditation, or your favorite activity into your routine to take care of yourself.

Customize your skincare routine

  • An efficient skincare routine will keep your skin clean, nourished, and enhance its natural glow. Make sure to use the appropriate products and ingredients for your current needs, otherwise, you can hurt it more than help it.
